Black Boxes #3

Black Boxes #3, continuing the Open Box series. This third piece could work as well outdoors as indoors - the next video of this will probably be in the sculpture garden.

Black Boxes #2

Next in the Black Box series, I have a feeling this will be a series I return to again and again. In powder coated aluminum.

Black Boxes #1

I've been struggling with the concept of these open boxes for years and finally I have a version that works! This indoor piece is designed for manual propulsion - a quick turn of the middle section will sustain movement for 4-5 minutes. Aluminum, stainless steel and glossy black powder coat. Version #2 should be ready soon.

Three Open Boxes

This wasn’t my first attempt at this form - you can tell this piece is in the early stages because there are counterweights still taped to the outside.

I loved the proportions, I loved the movement, but my early construction techniques frankly weren’t up to the task. The piece, delicate as it was, couldn’t support it’s own weight. Now that I have those issues conquered (see Black Boxes above) it won’t be long until I return to making this a large outdoor piece again.
