Six Stubby Stacked Rods
I always love how the original concept for piece can expand and change over time. Compared to the very first Stacked Rods this piece is both very similar and completely different. As time as gone on I’ve gotten much better as several aspects of this piece, from exterior finish to internal weighting and balancing. In this case the lowest level piece weighs about 20 times what the top piece weighs. One good manual spin of the bottom piece will keep the entire piece in motion for over 5 minutes.
Five Small Stacked Rods
This may be the perfect small Kinetic piece. This one is designed to be indoors and propelled by hand. One good spin of the bottom rotating element will keep the piece in motion for almost 5 minutes. For our outdoor and wind driven pieces every rotating element is made as light as possible while still being balanced. With the stacked rods, the longest top piece is as light as we can make it while the bottom shortest piece is as heavy as possibly. All the pieces in between progress from heavier to lighter which allows them to move more independently.
